Art Updates: Wrapping Up the Year
Hewwo!
I thought that this was going to be a long list of work in progress pieces, but thanks to holiday plane time, I managed to finish off a bunch of the stuff I've had sitting on my iPad for a few months. A gift for everyone but mostly for me because I get the iPad storage space back. :9
Starting off strong with a nice, polished version of this Mihra and Azari drawing. I haven't figured out which of her friends she's romantically involved with yet, so I thought I'd do some sketches of the options. The vibes are pretty different between Azari and Nerine (pictured in the next section), but I'm not sure the exercise helped me solve the problem.
Next up we have a nice family photo...and then an illustration of a goddess from this universe, Vralli. Kind of weird how much she looks like Vri, but I'm sure it's unrelated.
As a side note, I was struggling a lot with that drawing of Vri and Narran until I decided to add Longfellow. He's such a star.
Now, here's the Nerine version of Mihra's love life. She's a bit, uhh, more forward.
In the end, we'll see where the story takes everybody whenever I get around to writing that far in. Falling World is currently a big folder of assorted notes and around 15,000 actual words across three manuscripts. (Plus another 100,000 words across the old manuscript I wrote when I was 17, but I'm not so sure those are helpful anymore.)
Shaosim (pictured right) is in a similar place. She's my most fun character to poke at from a mood standpoint, but I know so little about her story right now. (There's murder though. I know about the murder.) The character she's based on from the version of Falling World I wrote when I was 12 was a desert dweller named Arid with a sexy wind spirit man as a companion. Now she's in a goth cult with a bat friend. Oh, how times change.
Finally, here's a pair of looser drawings I did while I was trying to get used to the iPad again.
One final note: I am trying out this blog as a newsletter. The posts should be the same between the newsletter and the site. If you're interested in having these posts sent directly to your email inbox, please sign up below.
Thanks for reading! Happy birthday to me today! Next time you hear from me it'll be a brand new year, and may we all be free of our tendonitis.
