Art Updates: Some Falling World Drawings
Hi nerds, I haven't drawn much this summer, but!! What I did draw are some of my coolest pieces in a long time. Maybe ever?
I love this piece! The rendering is so good; it really made me want to dive into more experimenting with color in some of my other WIP pieces this year. Hopefully you’ll get to see some of those soon. Thematically, it’s tough to explain this piece without handing you an entire novel, but I’ll just say that Shaosim is a killer of gods. Vri is a god (???). They will be fast friends. :)
I polished the above piece up a bit; I originally wasn't happy with any of the coloring I had done to it and ended up deleting those layers three different times. But I recently got a lot more into inking my digital work like it's a line drawing, and I think that worked well! I definitely want to keep dipping into this style of polish in the future. The only downside is that the (digital) pen I usually use isn't ideal for this sort of precise line work, so I'll have to do some experimenting. (It's the MaxPack Visual Development brush.)
This is the sort of thing where I have no idea why this scene exists. Longfellow, the lizard, does not belong to or particularly like Vri. They spend the bulk of the story in a desert. I do plan for some weird, cool environmental stuff that's a part of that desert, but had I planned for massive water lily pond? Not really!
Whether this scene becomes something canon is always up in the air, but this is the sort of extremely malleable plotting process that makes writing books fun. I'm not the best outliner, and this is why: I want to be surprised by myself. Stories should be able to take you to places you didn't expect. (Obviously this is tougher if you have deadlines to meet, but I sure don't.)
